Fifty years ago, Lyndon Baines Johnson came to the dedication of a newly constructed hospital building in Ellenville to speak about his hopes for rural health care as part of the Great Society he was promoting.
"This hospital that we have come here this evening to dedicate is not only a modern, new facility, it is a temple to life and health," said LBJ on August 19, 1966. "It is a monument to all the goals that men can attain when they work together for the common good."
The event will feature the premiere of a new film about Ellenville made by John Hazard. The film will take us through the early history of Ellenville, and will highlight the 50th anniversary of President Johnson’s visit to dedicate the hospital, as told through the voices and memories of people who witnessed that historic day…
then continue to with a look at ERH’s present accomplishments and goals for the future.
