Hospital to Honor Walter Sperling, MD

The Board of Trustees of Ellenville Regional Hospital and the Ellenville Regional Hospital Foundation are pleased to announce that Walter Sperling, MD has been chosen as the honoree at the Hospital's Annual Gala and Silent Auction.

Ellenville Regional Hospital’s Annual Gala will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the White Wolf Restaurant and Lounge in Napanoch, NY. This year’s event will once again include a Journal and fabulous Silent Auction!

Upon discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Walter Sperling, MD, came to Ellenville in 1966 to join the Ellenville Medical Group, an established, multi-specialty practice. He arrived just in time to see President Lyndon B. Johnson dedicate Ellenville Community Hospital, where he then served as Chief of Medicine for about 30 years. In 2010, Dr. Sperling sold his practice to The Institute for Family Health and shortly afterward joined The Institute as a Physician but also launching his career there as a teacher of 3rd and 4th year medical students. In August 2011, he also became the Medical Director at Ellenville Regional Hospital. Dr. Sperling and his wife Sue just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Over the course of the past 50 years, Dr. Sperling has cared for generations of the local residents, as well as summer hotels guests from New York City who would seek him out for his excellent and compassionate care. Dr. Sperling was awarded the 2014 Dr. Gary Ogden Rural Health Practitioner of the Year Award by the New York State Association for Rural Health, was honored by the Ellenville Chapter of the NAACP for his commitment to care of all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and also honored by Congregation Ezrath Israel for his service to the community. Sperling has served as Commander of Jewish War Veterans, Ellenville Post. Dr. Sperling’s lifelong commitment to the Ellenville community, and to Ellenville Hospital, made him an obvious choice as Gala honoree!
